As the global workforce shifts to virtual spaces, a new challenge has emerged beneath the surface of digital efficiency: safeguarding our psychological well-being. On April 22, 2026, YMCA Uganda addressed this critical intersection in its third Digiskill session: "Mental Health in Remote and Digital Work Environments." The timely webinar resonated deeply with the community, drawing 26 participants for a vital conversation on digital well-being.
The session was guided by Ms. Layer Akankwasa, a specialist who brought immense empathy and professional insight to the virtual room. Ms. Akankwasa tackled the invisible frictions of the digital workplace—such as the isolation of working from home, the blurred boundaries between personal life and screen time, and the cognitive fatigue caused by constant connectivity.
The masterclass provided a compassionate framework for maintaining inner balance:
Navigating the Digital Burnout Zone: Understanding the warning signs of chronic online exhaustion and identifying the psychological traps of feeling "always available."
Establishing Digital Boundaries: Practical strategies to structurally separate workspace from living space, creating healthy routines that allow the mind to fully disconnect.
Cultivating Virtual Communities: How to build supportive peer networks online to combat isolation, ensuring that remote work does not lead to emotional detachment.
Ms. Akankwasa’s approach reminded everyone that a truly "digitally skilled" professional isn't just someone who knows how to operate complex systems, but someone who knows how to preserve their human energy while doing so.
As the 3rd of 12 webinars from YMCA Uganda, this event stood out as a sanctuary of reflection within the technical series, reinforcing the Digiskill initiative’s holistic commitment to preparing resilient, balanced, and healthy future leaders.
